Substituting SPI NOR: three parameters that must line up
Mainstream SPI NOR parts substitute well — the failures all hide in the details.
Voltage grades do not mix
W25Q64JV is the 3V grade, W25Q64JW is 1.8V — one letter apart. Wrong grade means dead or damaged. Your board rail decides half the part number.
Same pin count, different bodies
Eight pins can be SOIC-8 150mil, SOIC-8 208mil or WSON8 — footprints are not interchangeable. Match the package suffix to the last character.
Cross-brand swaps: check the status registers
Winbond, Macronix and GigaDevice are broadly command-compatible, but QE-bit location and status-register writes differ — re-verify boot code in quad mode; plain single-line SPI is usually painless.
Cross-reference by brand
Equivalents by brand at the same rating. Green = we have handled it and the cell links through. This is not a drop-in guarantee — use it to narrow the search.

Common questions
Blank or programmed?
We only handle new full reels — factory blank (all FF). We do not deal in pulled NOR: erase-cycle history cannot be verified, and that is not something we can responsibly sell.
Minimum order?
By the reel. A standard 128Mb reel is 2,500 pieces; smaller densities pack more. Multi-reel lots price better.
Are you an authorised distributor for these brands?
No, and we have never claimed to be. Stock comes from cancelled projects, plant closures and distributor clear-outs, and every lot says which. See Quality & verification.
